The concept of Playball started more than 20 years ago when a sport coach developed it in a sport environment. And today, after all these years, Playball is still run by the same principles: we believe that the program makes an excellent contribution to every part of a young child's life by developing physical skills.
The success of the program does not start and end with the development of motor skills though, but rather lies in its approach. At Playball your child will be coached positively and encouraged to develop life skills which will improve self image. We believe that success - however small - leads to confidence and further success.
Playball is an educational program. Sessions are structured and coaches are handpicked and trained every 16 weeks. The concept has been successful all over the world and is currently boasting franchises in the USA, Canada, England, Ireland, Wales, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Qatar, the Arabian Emirates and also in neighbouring countries like Swaziland, Botswana and Namibia.
At Playball, your child will extend basic movement experience. This means that your child will improve physical skills to an extent which will enable him/her to participate in sport with confidence. More importantly – your child will be exposed to certain developmental skills which will assist in school readiness and as a result will probably show improved results in the classroom!

Playball Programme Stages
Playball has developed separate learning material for each age group according to developmental milestones for that specific age. This ensures effective learning as content is just right for your child. Each age group has its own objectives:
Two can Do (2 turning 3)
An early encounter with a structured learning environment. 2's are exposed to concepts like a learning routine, listening and following instructions, basic concepts like colours and shapes, spatial concepts and an introduction to basic movement skills.
Watch Me @ 3 (3 turning 4)
The learning environment is still structured and children are exposed to fantasy and creativity which are relevant to this age group. More is expected regarding skills - a basic foundation in sports skills are laid at this young age.
Dinkies (4 turning 5)
Children of this age are able to concentrate for longer periods and are also more accurate when imitating skills. More technical detail is added and a wide variety of specific sport skills are covered at this stage.
Preps (5 turning 6)
School readiness and refining sport skills are priorities now. Children are corrected and guided to use the right technique and are also required to work in pairs.
Players (6 to 9)
A selection of 6 different sports are presented during the year. Children learn basic rules, game plans and techniques of each sport.

Playball and the Modern Age
As an adult, you probably never needed a programme like Playball. You developed adequately and did quite well in sport and were successful in the classroom.
Why is Playball Necessary for your Child?
Our technological age has so many advantages, but it also creates a disadvantage regarding our children's physical development. Motor development forms the basis of all learning and causes our teachers to be concerned as children are becoming increasingly weak in this area. Every second child has a learning problem and sport coaches complain that young children have not mastered basic skills and that the standard is dropping by the year. Parents are also worried about children who are overweight and not interested in sport or physical activity. Computer games, less freedom due to security, an increase in single children and a higher academic standard with tons of homework which takes up all free time does not reflect positively on the current situation.
This is why Playball is so Valuable in the life of your child: it motivates children to participate in sport and sparks an interest in physical activity because children are more successful from the word go.
General
At Playball we only teach 8 children per session - even less in younger age groups. This guarantees individual attention and results. Children receive progress reports and are rewarded with medals and certificates on completing a stage. Parents receive information and newsletters regularly to keep them updated about development. Playball coaches are partners in education who work alongside school staff to give your child the best chance in developing optimally.
